Background
The world is currently undergoing one of the most profound economic and social transformations, largely driven by the expanding impact of literacy and, more recently, by the growing importance of digital skills. While literacy has long been a fundamental prerequisite for success in the workplace—defining an individual’s ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic—digital literacy has emerged as an even more critical competency in the modern world. In today’s interconnected society, digital literacy is not just an asset but a survival skill, enabling individuals to engage with information technology, navigate digital spaces, and participate fully in the global economy.
It is a new form of literacy essential for creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Without digital literacy, individuals are unable to fully participate in society or develop the skills required for success in the 21st-century workforce.
However, digital inequality presents a significant barrier, especially for women and marginalized communities. This inequality limits access to vital resources such as employment, education, healthcare, and financial services, all of which are increasingly accessible through digital platforms. For many women, particularly in underserved regions like Northern Nigeria, this digital divide severely restricts opportunities for economic empowerment and personal growth.
Many girls in these regions, especially in Africa, grow up without access to positive role models or an understanding of the vast opportunities technology provides. They are often unaware of how technology can open doors to careers, education, and entrepreneurship, leaving them at a disadvantage in an increasingly digital world.
She&Tech is committed to changing this narrative. Our mission is to empower women and girls with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the digital era. Through research, outreach, and capacity-building initiatives, She&Tech showcases the opportunities available through technology and inspires young girls to pursue careers and educational paths in STEM.
By providing mentorship, digital skills training, and fostering a supportive community, She&Tech seeks to create positive role models and open doors for women and girls, equipping them with the tools to rewrite their own stories. We envision a future where every girl and woman, regardless of her background, has the opportunity to fully participate in the digital economy and become a leader in her own right.
Our Initiatives are open to women, girls, and youths
